A plain embroidered shirt or a striped one

A plain embroidered shirt or a striped one

The cloth pattern changes. The embroidery is still stitched, not printed.

The straight answer

Plain shirts are a solid colour with the stitch on top. Striped shirts have the stripe in the cloth, and the design is stitched onto that. Neither is an oversized t-shirt. Use the shirt size chart.

A stripe makes the chest look busier, so a smaller mark usually sits more cleanly than a large one fighting the lines. On a plain shirt you can let the embroidery be the only pattern.

Compare the black sunflower plain shirt with the Sunflower striped shirt. Same flower, different cloth. Plain shirts are in plain embroidered shirts. Stripes are in striped embroidered shirts.

The fit difference between these shirts and the tees is on are the shirts oversized too.

A shirt is allowed to be a shirt

Plain shirts are a solid colour with the stitch on top. Stripes already give the cloth some movement, so a smaller mark usually sits more cleanly than a large one fighting the lines. If you want the embroidery to be the only pattern, take the plain shirt. If you want the cloth to do more of the work, take the stripe. Both are stitched, not printed.

Use the shirt chart. A person who wears M in an oversized tee often still takes their usual shirt size here. An oversized-tee fit on a shirt can look borrowed. Iron around the motif if the collar needs a press. Most tees do not need a sharp crease. A shirt with a collar is the one people actually iron.

The flower, the bee, the evil eye: those are ready designs. If you want the same flower in a thread colour we do not already sell, that is a custom recolour, not a button on the product page. Send the shirt you like and the colour you want.

Thread has a height. Ink does not

Run a finger across a finished chest. Embroidery stands up. A print sits on the surface. A thick print can crack and flake after enough washes. Thread goes through the cotton, so it does not peel off in a sheet. It can still fuzz if you scrub it or dry it on high heat for years. Normal washing keeps it looking like the photo.

Thread cannot copy a photograph, a long sentence in hairline letters, or a dozen shades that are almost the same. A logo, an animal, a flower, or a short name is what stitch is good at. A screen colour and a thread colour are close, not identical. If two colours in the file are nearly twins, they can blend once they are stitched. We flag that before any thread goes in.

The back of the stitch is flatter than the front. Most people stop noticing it once the shirt is on, because the design sits on the chest or the sleeve and not on a tight spot. A very dense design feels more raised. If your skin is fussy, say so and we will keep the mark off places that rub. Iron the cloth, not the stitches. A hot iron straight on the design flattens it.

Stand in front of a mirror, not a size rumour

Picture the tee you already reach for on a Saturday. Not the one that looked sharp on someone else. The one you wore until the collar gave up. Where does the shoulder seam sit? If it is parked on the edge of your shoulder, that shirt is a regular fit. Our oversized tees put that seam further out, on purpose. The hem hangs longer. The sleeve has room. You do not size up to get that. The pattern already did it.

If you want the drape in the photos, order the size you usually wear. If you want it closer, come down one size. It will still be looser than a fitted tee. Between two sizes, the bigger one is the full oversized shape. The smaller one is the cleaner version of the same idea. The shoulder number on the product page changes the look more than the letter on the label.

Do not copy a tee size onto a shirt. A shirt has its own chart, and an oversized tee size on a shirt can look like you borrowed it. A polo for a team is a third garment. Tell us which one the size list is for. If you are stuck, send your usual size and your height. We will say which one we would pick.

If you are still on the fence

Come back to the first lines. The cloth pattern changes. The embroidery is still stitched, not printed. If that matches the shirt in your head, use the links above and either check out or send the file. If it does not, the other guides under this post are the next place to look.
