240GSM is the weight of the oversized tees. It is a heavy cotton, not a thin summer shirt.
The straight answer
GSM means grams per square metre. A higher number is a heavier cloth. The oversized t-shirts are 240GSM cotton, so they have some weight in the hand and the embroidery has something solid to sit on.
It is not a winter jacket. You can wear it in ordinary Indian weather. It is simply thicker than the light tees that show the cloth underneath in bright sun. When you first wear it, the cotton feels firmer. It softens after a few washes.
You can see that weight on the Midnight Panther oversized t-shirt and the Wild Cheetah oversized t-shirt. Both are in oversized t-shirts.
Embroidered shirts are a different garment. Do not assume a shirt is 240GSM. Read the description on the shirt you are buying, and the fabric answer on what the t-shirts are made of.
Pick it up. The weight is the point
GSM is just grams per square metre. A bigger number is a heavier cloth. The oversized tees are 240GSM cotton. In the hand they feel like a shirt with a spine, not a vest that collapses the moment you sweat. Thin tees twist at the shoulder and curl at the hem. A stitch has nothing solid to sit on. That is the whole argument for the heavier blank.
Heavy does not mean a winter coat. You can wear it through an ordinary Indian day. It is warmer than a mesh vest, and anyone who says otherwise is selling a mood. What it does well is keep its shape from the commute to the evening. It softens after a few washes. It is not see-through in normal light. Black hides more than a very pale ground, which is worth knowing if you are comparing a light shirt with a heavy tee. They are not the same cloth.
Cotton can pull in if you boil it or bake it in a dryer. Wash cold, inside out, and dry it flat or on a line. Do not size up because you expect the shirt to vanish in the wash. Order the size on the chart, then wash it like you want to keep it.
Thread has a height. Ink does not
Run a finger across a finished chest. Embroidery stands up. A print sits on the surface. A thick print can crack and flake after enough washes. Thread goes through the cotton, so it does not peel off in a sheet. It can still fuzz if you scrub it or dry it on high heat for years. Normal washing keeps it looking like the photo.
Thread cannot copy a photograph, a long sentence in hairline letters, or a dozen shades that are almost the same. A logo, an animal, a flower, or a short name is what stitch is good at. A screen colour and a thread colour are close, not identical. If two colours in the file are nearly twins, they can blend once they are stitched. We flag that before any thread goes in.
The back of the stitch is flatter than the front. Most people stop noticing it once the shirt is on, because the design sits on the chest or the sleeve and not on a tight spot. A very dense design feels more raised. If your skin is fussy, say so and we will keep the mark off places that rub. Iron the cloth, not the stitches. A hot iron straight on the design flattens it.
Stand in front of a mirror, not a size rumour
Picture the tee you already reach for on a Saturday. Not the one that looked sharp on someone else. The one you wore until the collar gave up. Where does the shoulder seam sit? If it is parked on the edge of your shoulder, that shirt is a regular fit. Our oversized tees put that seam further out, on purpose. The hem hangs longer. The sleeve has room. You do not size up to get that. The pattern already did it.
If you want the drape in the photos, order the size you usually wear. If you want it closer, come down one size. It will still be looser than a fitted tee. Between two sizes, the bigger one is the full oversized shape. The smaller one is the cleaner version of the same idea. The shoulder number on the product page changes the look more than the letter on the label.
Do not copy a tee size onto a shirt. A shirt has its own chart, and an oversized tee size on a shirt can look like you borrowed it. A polo for a team is a third garment. Tell us which one the size list is for. If you are stuck, send your usual size and your height. We will say which one we would pick.
If you are still on the fence
Come back to the first lines. 240GSM is the weight of the oversized tees. It is a heavy cotton, not a thin summer shirt. If that matches the shirt in your head, use the links above and either check out or send the file. If it does not, the other guides under this post are the next place to look.
